Teacher: Angie Fiecke
Paraeducator: Amanda Ferguson
During the year, 3rd grade students will focus on the following:
Religious Education: The religion program in 3rd grade focuses on faith and that we belong to a faith community-the church. 3rd graders will learn about God as revealed in creation, in God’s dealings with the Chosen People, and in the life and teaching of Jesus Christ
Reading & Writing: The 3rd grade reading and writing program, Wit & Wisdom, is broken into four modules that focus on a topic essential for building background knowledge, vocabulary, and writing skills. Students are exposed to works of literature, informational text and high quality artwork. Essential topics will reoccur helping students deepen their understanding of core knowledge across grades. In third grade modules are The Sea, Outer Space, A New Home, and Artists Make Art.
Mathematics: Third graders will learn to add and subtract within 1,000, understand multiplication and division, understand fractions, understand area, use measurement and data, and describe and analyze two-dimensional shapes
Science: Hands-on exploration of patterns of motion, similarities and differences between organisms and how weather and climate affect our lives using the Smithsonian Institution Science Kit program.
Social Studies: Third graders, social studies curriculum is TCI, students will build understanding of our local community, US Regions and Early American History.
Assessment: Ongoing formal and informal assessments across all subjects to monitor student growth and progress.
Third grade is a big step in responsibility as 3rd graders have nightly homework, required reading goals and work to memorize their multiplication facts. Third grade curriculum includes religion, reading, writing, math, social studies, and science. Students participate in Physical Education, Art, Technology and Music weekly. Third grade students at St. Joseph can help in faith activities like leading our All Saints Mass, altar serving, or leading the Advent Wreath.

All Saints Day Project
Our third-grade students lead Mass dressed as the saints they researched for their class projects. Each student represented their chosen saint, honoring the courage, faith, and love these holy men and women lived out. This special celebration of All Saints Day reflects our commitment to weaving faith into education and inspiring students to follow in the footsteps of the saints.
